Greyhound Bus (Free verse) by Sunshine Conkey
While waiting for the greyhound bus
everyone is making a fuss
weighing their bags
filling out their luggage tags.
People rushed around the station,
trying to get to their next location.
They start pushing for the front of the line.
Kids are tired or bored and start to whine.
Having a bus that's 2 hours late,
is something you have to tolerate.
Seats got filled with new faces,
all going to far-away places.
Ended up sitting with a strange looking dude,
with big arms that were all tattooed.
Anyone who wasn't used to this way of travel,
had nerves that started to unravel.
It got dark & I got tired
but think this dude was slightly wired.
Sleep was something he didn't comprehend.
He was out to make a new friend.
He finally got to his destination
all ready to start his vacation.
He grabbed his stuff and we said farewell,
as he waited for his sister, Danielle.
I had to change to a new bus
It wasn't as crowded, which was a plus.
Could finally stretch out and sleep
everyone was quiet-couldn't hear a peep.
In St. Louis, we missed our next ride
but another bus was waiting outside.
The new driver said he'd make up time,
but we forgot to tell him that speeding was a crime.
