Kerri & Terri (Free verse) by jessicazee

Next door neighbors all my life, you were big kids on baby swings, my fences latched, unlocked, I was sandboxed, still curtains, you were babysitters, paperboys, smoking Camels, unfiltered, your dad building tractors all morning, at night chugging Old Style, washing his hands with Lava or Goop, soaps strong enough to cloak creases of dirt, skim layers of skin before dinner, a hamburger pie, a casserole of meat, potatoes, green beans – Ritz crackers on top.

The nostalgia greys out under all this summing up.
