Curtains (Free verse) by mr smith

Reunited with loneliness I find the cold part of bed Stars shine outside But she’s drawn the curtains again. Our love was once sacred Silences like an old leather chair Now I watch the cripple naked Totally unaware. She wears my old gray shirt in bed The one she smelled when I went away ‘it helps me sleep she said’ ‘so I can feel you close each day’, My skin felt like polythene And the air thickened Like tragic news to a throat I was sickened Clemmed of any hope. Circumstances and outcomes Keep me captive Loyal to misery To make her happy Suffocation is nourishment As I am consumed by my own hunger.

Old age, minds fail, memories and desires last. Not bad.
