Math Poem 4 (Free verse) by Dovina
"Square Root of Minus Never" Square a number, any number, negativity never comes. Even depressed subzero, made square, turns a number plus. And what’s more real than numbers? The square root of negativity cannot be, unless feigning mathematical, you write fantasy, give it name, audaciously — Imaginary. (square root of minus never, a better name) And having crossed a line, you and they are free to fly like goblins, ghouls in Narnia and Fractal Land.

Down the ladder: Faint Heart

Sounds like a good place to be, Minus-Neverland. I wonder what the tree looks like; The one with the square root that is.

It's a sponge tree, grows sponges. Sometimes they wear square pants.

Let me ask: When you comment this way, does it mean you think the poem sucks?

Take off that silly cape and stop flapping around Alpha Beta. You're not in Narnia. It's getting embarrassing to be seen with you in public.

And I with you.

Whatever, Wonder Woman. At least wear a trenchcoat over your costume like the rest of us.

“Flapping around Alpha Beta” happens sometimes during the test of a mechanical pterodactyl. I don’t undertake only those tasks at which I believe I will shine. Such fear-based reticence would limit my fun. You do understand that we play a child’s game aimed at education. I risk encountering ridicule, and even welcome it sometimes, for the possibility of a shining insight. It’s hard to be sworn at or likened to all manner of disgusting things. But the way I see it, as long as sun glimmers from a pool of urine, I’ll endure the stench. Or as a lost friend once said, “Poemranker is a great resource. It is like a huge thrift shop or, even better, a gigantic landfill. If you don't mind getting dirty, there are many precious things to be found under some especially slimy, fecally covered toilet seat or unwashed, skidmarked underwear.” I’m getting all mushy and teary-eyed now.

I hope at least one person reading this ramble has experienced courage not his or her own – realizes that this is an essay born in love. I plan to show it to him this evening and tell him that to feel loved is to feel worth more than the sum of my efforts, and that his brief words counteract an ocean of guff.

Thanks for listening.

I don't want to cause offence, but this does suck.

I think "Submission" which runs along similar lines is better.
