happy b'day maria (Free verse) by yeats1
I got up in the morning, pepared a cup of tea
I could hear the birds chirping loudly discussing maybe
the flying directions to find the worms for food
As i looked out of the window i could see the sun rise over the horizon
the chilly morning breeze brushed against my chest sending a shiver down
to my empty stomach
As i began to plan my day out
thoughts rushed to my mind
the umpteen number of things to do
suddenly a thought flashed across like a bolt of lightning
It was my beloved's birthday
I walked into the bedroom
found her cuddled in bed
I sat on the edge of the bed
took the worn and calloused palm of her hand
exhausted she was fast asleep
the labour in the fields had tired her immensely
I examined her graceful face
she was a woman never complaining, never angry, full of joy
she left behind her loved one's for me
and here she was working hard to keep the household going
She is the perfect Eve God created for me
the thought of this evoked the deepest love for her in me
I bent down and gently kissed her forehead
she was fast asleep
yet the warmth of My kiss woke her up
she looked into my eyes seeking an answer
An answer to this unusual expression of love
HAPPY B'DAY MARIA I said
