The King's Assassin (Free verse) by Twisted Wizard
Upon my horse I ride through the dead of night,
Darkness and fog have decreased my sight.
Storming across the plains, I'm a shadow in the mist,
I creep, I glide, in the night I do confide.
The lightning it crashes and slashes the sky,
For tonight, many a folk shall die.
Slaughtered by my hand and mighty sword,
For treachery and conspiracy against the holy lord.
Dawn arises and overtakes the storm,
Now, to the duties to which I've conformed
(days later)
Standing upon the lifeless heap,
Forever thinking that I should not weep.
Relieving my sadness for those I've slain,
I have but my own life to claim.
It is here and for eternity I shall remain,
Living with death and its mysterious bane,
On this wonderous, thundering plain.
