Mellow (Free verse) by frostygirl

Mellow as she slowly sips her espresso and watches the ashes fall from her ciggarette like the last glimmerings of hope long ago forgotten He sits across from her but he???s looking the other way at the pretty girl in the corner reapplying her lipstick pale shade of pink like the colour of his fingertips as her nervously bites his nails and glances at the paintings on the wall Things weren???t always like this Remember back to when they met Innocence hung in the air like a blanket on a clothesline but the sky clouded over the rain fell in buckets There???s no sunshine in the forecast and their innocence fell onto the ground trampled in the mud by their very own feet Now she takes one last look at his expressionless face and butts her ciggarette out in the ashtray along with the feelings she once felt ???Well, I guess this is it???? Her voice unfamiliar and cold barely heard over the chatter and laughter echoeing off the walls of the crowded cafe But they had forgotten they were there for a moment when their eyes locked and it felt like the first time they ever saw eachother only this time they were strangers passing eachother in the street never to cross paths again
