Theology (Free verse) by dougsoderstrom

Theology O perfect kingdom, Ancient womb of our souls, Born out of love, And nurtured by “the giver of life,” Ignorant, innocent, unwitting, and unclothed, Yet protected from every single stain, Spotless---- no blemish to be found, But without even a wisp of its own breath, A mere reflection of “a much greater part,” Born without choice, Forced to be a part of Eden. And then an alien voice---- an archaic sound, A Luciferian call “to know,” An offer to be set free----- to be loosed from “all restraint,” A cerebral gift for thought, The capacity to choose for one’s self, An “original sin,” An urge to leave one’s home, No condemnation, neither even expelled, Just “a simple leaving,” A “Prodigal Choice,” A dauntless resolution, A decision to become a human being. Two separate beings------- an Adam and an Eve, A ying and a yang, Polar opposites----- pulled together like North to South, An inevitable merger, conjoined at the hip---- “belly to belly,” By a force much greater than life itself, A need to procreate, to extend one’s life, A search for immortality, An excuse, a weakness, an Achilles’ Heel, A passion to taste of “The Tree’s first fruit,” An earthly misadventure----a coital error, An orgasmic entrance into life itself, Leaving “the kingdom” from whence one came. The miracle of two seeds having become one, New life----- one more soul added to the vastness of mankind, Yet, in the twinkling of an eye, The child becomes a man, Never knowing why he is here, Why he has been allowed to “run rampant upon the earth,” Did he forget, Or is it that he did not want to know, That everyone is a Prodigal Son----- that each has ventured far from home, That all “are lost,” that each of us is adrift in “a common sea,” That every man, and women, and child is doomed, that there is no way out, Except that we find the “only way of escape,” Salvation----- namely, the choice to become “a man of sorrows,” A realization that this is truly “a land of sadness,” a place we no longer wish to be, That there be a choice to leave, A resolute rejection of all that constitutes “the world of man,” That we long to be crucified, that we yearn for a way of release, that we cry out to be delivered, That we learn that death is not to be feared, that it is not an enemy, But rather a friend, an ally, a passageway---- an unlocked door, One that must be opened in order for us to go back home.
