sonnet (Other) by hoopoe

It's several years since I last wrote a sonnet And now I see I'm writing one again, Doubt intervenes, and where I would be plain, Ideas disperse. I need a rhyming-bonnet - Not "thinking-cap" - a pretty clumsy pun, it May seem to you, who do not bear this strain, This song, heart forced through cities in my brain, Seeking its end only since I've begun it. My urge to meet my challenge brings a birth, Something of me issues towards you other. Don't be too quick to calculate its worth; It may be small, I am no less a mother. And you have seen, in reading this you lknow it, The undrugged labour of a female poet.

Ohhh, I know this feeling. There's something about formal poetry that propels us through the writing of a poem, a birth-like struggle. This is a very funny piece of ars poetica, particularly the abundance (and alternation) of feminine rhymes from a "female poet".
