O Man Away From Me (Free verse) by Limness
How did it start, the
Cutting words apart, and
Keeping to the pattern?
You chose, to sew,
Sew your words against the cold
Inside. Why hide behind the knowing?
Your heart shows through to those with
Eyes to see through the embroidery.
Finery dressed in Spartan spurts
Is plain to me; all I needed was the numbers
And I had you figured.
You banged your keys in defense of the
Spiritually counted babbler, who
Someone else owned, and I saw you then
Though the veil was dense,
Though not so thick as the
Wrath you'd vent
And you piqued me.
Obverse and reverse,
Hasn't Caesar had his due?
The contract's done; you
Were the one.
But, so was I
Left behind
To learn the craft of quilting.
Heavy blankets make a warm bed.
