Life Addict (Free verse) by Enkidu

I wake up and I need it, bad. It's got my system hooked. From sunrise to sunset I crave it. I've tried meetings, interventions, giving it up cold; suicide. Each moment's worse than each previous and I'm torn. I can't sleep. I need it in me. Every dollar I spend feeds this- my addiction. Coffee, concert tickets, Coca-Cola, bus rides and airfare get me by, to that place I need to be. It's wonderful when it hits you. But I need more: a job, hardcore stuff. Greeting cards and magazines. I need family and friends. Sure, my addiction is real and I'll feed it 'til the day I die.
