on her way to the liquor store: 1) she stepped over a dead rat next to a dumpster. 2) She dropped some pebbles down a sewage grate. 3) She found someone's overdue library book on the ground. 4) She saw 3 used needles. 5) She picked up 23 cents in small change. 6) She caught her backpack on a wire fence and ripped it. 7) She went to a liquor store. 8) She went home.

Just a first thought I had... numbering detracts from
the power of your words. Need a capital S in first line. Repetitive she lends it a rhythm.
