Rats (Free verse) by Caducus
Throat slit red in brake light trance, my twelve hour changeling appears in wing mirror sunrise by birds in tarmac trees. Traffic light duel Audi Versus Saab amber green smog I scurry then crawl to a third exit grave, parking by failures in Hyundai badges yellow star cars. Eleven hours crawl Rats scurry to one room gnawing at each other then grouping on one to a slow one month death. Rob is now Robert, Rat is now mouse. At twenty past nine by mute tarmac trees my rat sleeps in its Saab tomb till it wakes on my forehead crawling in to my mouth.

Up the ladder: Wish I was there...
Down the ladder: lost at sea
